Wisconsin Woman Sentenced for Mail Fraud
Madison, Wisconsin—Erik C. Peterson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Christina Phillips, 28, of Viola, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb to eight months in prison for mail fraud. Phillips pleaded guilty to this charge on March 26, 2008.
Ms. Phillips used eBay to post items such as electronics and jewelry for sale. The victims bid on the items and sent Phillips payment for them. Phillips then either sent them nothing or fake jewelry in return. Phillips was ordered to pay $12,559.20 in restitution to her victims.
The charges against Phillips were the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
