Rio Woman Sentenced for Embezzlement

MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Kari Dorn, 44, of Rio, Wis., was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to one day of incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release, for bank embezzlement. She was also ordered to pay restitution.

Dorn embezzled money from the Forest Products Laboratory Credit Union in Madison, Wis. in 2005 and 2006 while serving as the credit union's president. She embezzled approximately $32,000 by manipulating credit union accounts to artificially inflate her own account balance, and then spent the money on her own personal expenses.

The embezzlement was discovered during an audit after Dorn left the credit union in 2007. The Forest Products Laboratory Credit Union merged with another credit union in 2008.

The charges against Dorn were the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith P. Duchemin.
